Yanky Doodle Dandy - the American People

We have been really pleasantly surprised with how lovely, helpful and generous we have found Americans.  I guess we had some sort of a preconceived idea of the typical American that most people have (arrogant, loud etc).  I don’t know why because the few Americans I know are some of the loveliest people I’ve met.
The local philosophy of life!

We have been offered fish, invited to dinner, given cake, lent power cords and tools, given wonderful advice and directions and offered places to stay with sons and daughters etc in other states we are passing through.  In general we have been treated absolutely wonderfully.  One RV supplier spent 1 hour in 90 C heat helping us test our brake lights on the camper, the people that sold us the camper gave us the tow bar attachments and a gas bbq to go.   We managed to overy pay the owners by $200 and they tracked us down to make sure we got it back.

Most people stop by our camper after hearing our accents (usually me squawking at the kids) and give us lots of advice.  You might think that because we are camping and staying in RV parks that we are meeting more down to earth and generous people but we can’t forget those New Yorkers who interrupted their busy journeys to stop and help us with pushchairs down stairs in the subway or give us detailed directions and take the time to help us with our tickets.
We also feel that the Americans we have dealt with via insurance (apart from the agent that lied on our application) and car registration etc have been the most professional and courteous we have encountered for a while.  Our circumstances are quite unique to them and pose challenges but they have always been patient, offered us solutions and taken the time to get us what we need.
Of course everyone loves the kids, Leo is an expert at high fives now and Spencer knows how to melt hearts with a wave and a smile.
